Tinto from Wiston (southern approach)
South Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire
This walk tackles the southern slopes of Tinto Hill via a less-travelled route from Wiston Lodge. Starting from a small parking area, the route climbs steadily through fields before entering open hillside. A series of zigzags leads up beside Pap Craig, with the path becoming less distinct as you approach the summit. The final ascent follows a fence line to reach the broad summit area, marked by a substantial cairn and trig point. On clear days, the panoramic views are exceptional, stretching across the Lake District and sections of the Cairngorms. While the southern approach is quieter, expect more walkers and occasional paragliders at the summit. The route requires good navigation skills and is best suited to experienced hillwalkers.
